The beauty of a woman

I have been contemplating this post for several weeks now wanting it to be inspiring but not coming across the wrong way. So please be patient through it and understand where I am coming from. Let me give you a fair warning you might think this sappy and if so you can avert your eyes till the very end and look at all the pretty pictures, but I will go on…

Awhile back, I was going through those times, you know… when you look in the mirror and can’t say anything positive about yourself or when a positive comment comes your way you swat it down like a fly coming to rest on your shoulder. In fact, I just felt plain ugly all. the. time. and couldn’t find a good trait to my name.

Then one day those bricks came down and knocked some sense into me- it was crucial for me to reach deep down and find that true beautiful self inside me - not beauty as the world sees it but as Gods sees it. It was a slow process, like a recovering addict I slowly was able to see positive and feel positive about myself. And that’s when I decided to write this post- and piece by piece I thought of my new idea: I want to have a reoccurring theme about true beautiful women to appear on my blog. SO, every Thursday I will be writing a post about a woman in my life that is beautiful to me and how they have touched my life.

Don’t go yet, I not done. in fact, I want to let you know my thoughts from the rediscovering of my true self. I am sure there are some of you who have gone through this moment in your life or you might be going through this now... when you look in the mirror and see nothing but negative (i think its a very common theme among women)

I am here to make plain that when this happens you are going no where fast. You need to be able to love your body/self and what it can do – see, hear, feel, laugh, move and breathe. We live in a world were we are bombarded with the message of women as an icon as nothing but a figure. We need to look past those messages, because in reality only 5% of the women population actually has the physical makeup to achieve that look. Embrace your body for what it is. Look past what the world is telling you and know that beauty is just not what’s on the outside but what is on the inside, your virtue,  and how you decide to let that beauty shine.

Have you ever noticed when you feel negative about yourself you can’t seem to look past you. But when you feel good about yourself you are so much more pleasant to others and can give a lot more.

One way to change and feel good about yourself is to pick one good thing about you; it can either be a talent, your smile, your eyes, whatever it is you continually build off that and then changes can start to happen.

So we start tomorrow on this journey of ‘Because She Does’- I didn't want to bore you with too much text. However, I do hope you will only take the good from the people I post about and hopefully you will start to think about yourself and others and how beautiful you can be in your own, true way…

Enjoy the pictures of the beauty of women and the force for good we can have-  too bad I don't have sappy inspiring music so as you look through you can feel more moved.

Sweet shelby.... I cannot tell you how much your post completely made my day. You see I was totally going thru the same thing... and last night it all just kind of came crashing down. So I take your message as one of those tender mercies the Lord sends out to those who are in dire need. So thank you for sharing your feelings and helping me to feel like I'm not the only one. What you said about how the world see's women is SO TRUE... and sometimes it gets the best of the best, if you know what I mean. Thank you for reminding me how precious each of us truly are to the One who matters most. Love you Shelby! :)

Oh Shelby!!!

This post made me cry and laugh all at the same time.

You expressed so wonderfully what EVERY single female feels at various times throughout our lives.

I love that you expressed it with knowledge that it is for many a passing feeling that ebbs and flows and that many women do get over this feeling.

You are wise beyond your years. I love following your blog. You are so multi-talented: you listen, you share, you create, you enjoy. You are a real woman with so MUCH going on and I admire you.

When I was your age .... I was not nearly so mature. I wanted to be. It took me a little longer, but the journey was never boring.

I hope the followers of your blog share your message with many other women. Your words are insightful, inspirational, and true.

I applaud you for conversing about your feelings.

Thank you Shelby for being a woman I admire.

You are great Shelby. Funny how shocking it is to hear such an awesome and gorgeous girl like yourself gets down on herself too. I am so grateful for the knowledge that we are princesses of a Loving Father in Heaven. I am excited for your Thursday blog posts :)

Robin has taken the words out of my mouth. You have a very wise head on your young shoulders and I applaud and admire your courage, your maturity, and your outlook on life.

Your post touched a nerve for me today as I too was feeling how you described. So it was uplifting and comforting to realise that I wasn't the only one. We women are way too hard on ourselves sometimes.

I love reading your blog and hearing what you are up to. Thank you for sharing your life with us.

Shelby you're one inspired woman. Thank you for sharing that! What a good idea to share what true beauty really is. Daniel showed me a video that dove made that goes along just with what you are talking about. http://www.dove.ca/en/default.aspx#/features/videos/video_gallery.aspx[cp-documentid=9125381]
Once on the website click on the Evolution video. I also agree with mom and what a great writer you are.

Shelby,
This was a great post! More women need to look to the inside rather than the outside! A great reminder to us all!

Hope you are well!
