So its been about a year since we took my sister to Disneyland... and I've been hesitant to post this video because of how personal and close this is to my heart. But I felt the need to share the video, hoping you will be touched and feel inspired in some way.
Here is a brief background of the time my sister had her dreams come true.
Shae is my sister. She has cerebral palsy which affects her lefts side and her ability to swallow. She has mental retardation in which she has the state of a 3 year old brain but still knows and can comprehend many things as a normal 30 year old. She was born deaf but has a very limited ability to communicate because of her mental state.

Now just stop and think for a second of what joys you would find in life if you were the one set with all these limitations.
Just like any human being and just like you, my sister has a need for happiness.
Her happiness does not take much, in fact because of the life she leads one of her greatest joys comes from receiving letters in the mail. Such a simple antidote but after a droning day at her simple task as a box stacker at work her basic joy everyday is to come home and check the mail.
When asked at her progress meeting what her goals where for the next year- she simply stated she wanted to go to Disneyland and meet the princesses there at the castles.
The response a laugh and a scoff.
Upon hearing about the meeting and the response my sister received after stating her dream I was sick to my stomach.
My sister has barely anything in life that she can do on her own or even do. She has very limited joy in her life... if any at all. So that day I heard her goal I knew i had to get her there somehow and she would meet those princesses.
I am blessed to know someone who was kind enough to help me with this goal, Brandon's Dad. He couldn't have been more sweet and just utterly wonderful in making sure everything went smoothly. And it couldn't have happened with out him- and i can not say enough of how neat he is.
it defiantly was one of the sweetest moments to see her run into the arms of the princesses of her girlish dreams. We all couldn't hold the tears back as we knew that her dream of meeting all the princesses was finally created, and a joy and a memory that will be imprinted on her heart.
Here is a video of the day journey we took down to Disneyland-
And just so you know Shae's tongue does not have the involuntary memory to constantly swallow nor does she have the ability to do so either. so she has constant flow of saliva. So in the video you will see the way that she has chosen to keep her hygiene and that is by keeping a tissue in her mouth to help stop the flow of salvia.

How so totally awesome was that! I had a special needs brother with similar issues (sadly he has passed away) - kudos to Disney and your father-in-law for making her dreams come true. We all have dreams and the need for hope and love. Clearly, your sister has been a ray of light in your lives as my brother was in mine.....

Hey Shelby! I just wanted to say thank you for posting this video. It was just beautiful and made me want to cry. What a blessing to have an angel sister on earth. I'm so grateful Brandon's dad could do this for her. I love reading your blog and seeing your cute boys. So glad you guys are doing well. I wish we lived closer so our kids could play together and we could chat. Take care girl!
Shelby,
This video shows that there is so much good in this world. This is the stuff that makes so lovely and so worth the fight. Thank you for sharing this sweet moment of your life with us. I was so inspired and filled with love.
I am currently in the process of starting a project that puts focus on moments such as these that make us see how incredibly beautiful life can be. I will be using my photo/video journalist to connect with others and build of community of kindness, beauty, and love.
Again, thank you so much for inspiring beauty! You're sister is a really sweet soul!
