The Evolution of Running (the Dirty Dash)

"Have you ever said to yourself, “Marathons are too easy, and Triathlons are for sissies?”

We haven’t either…those races are really hard. Think about it…the first person to run a marathon actually died. HE DIED!...and he probably didn’t even have fun along the way!"

When I read this, I knew this race was for me... the Dirty Dash 10K a race that turns boys to men and men(women) to swine...
This was not your A typical race, let me tell you a little about it... we arrived in 80's uniform because dressing up was encouraged. We then began the race by running up the side of the mountain in mud... we then encountered 5 foot hay stacks that were meant to be hurdle over accompanied by long black tubes that we had to crawl through. After running uphill and through dozens of switchbacks, we then reached the muddy wood walls that were meant to be climbed or slithered over.

After reaching our last wall we ran down to tires that we jump through and onto a the lake, where we ran through sticky, black mud that smelled of old insect carcasses.

After feeling like we were running 80 miles we then had to run up the side of the mountain one last time to reach the slip in slide the best obstacle of all. Sliding down was thrilling and wet and when we reached the bottom we ran to our last destiny. The mud pit... let me just allow the pictures below to end this post...

Before the race

Running up the mountian

Kelsi shoved me in...

Yes, Yes that is Kelsi underneath

Wow. Thank you so very much Brandon for the photos! They were all I could ever have expected and more. I agree with McKay that was great writing Shelby. Also what is up with the picture where we're standing in a line? Am I doing a victory dance? All I can say is we look GOOD in mud.

Are you kidding me?! You are the funnest and craziest girl I know. Looks like a blast, and I'm not one to normally jump for the mud puddles. :)

ew I can't believe you would go in mud that reminds me of the good ol days when I would go around with the kids and play in the mud and maybe shove the kids down in the mud and make them cry.
