Find yourself

This post has been hard for be to publish, probably because its so near to my heart and I wasn't sure if I wanted to post, or if I could even find the right words that adequately describe the experience that we had. But I will try and I hope that in reading this you understand the importance of family, of family history work, and connecting with your relatives in anyway shape or form.

I said in my previous post that I ever since I can remember I had a huge desire to go to Denmark. I have a strong relative tie there and it was something I wanted to experience to find more of my Danish roots. We found a steal of deal for flights and decided to take the jump. We learned enough about my ancestors that we knew they lived their lives on the Island of Fyn about 2 hours out from Copenhagen. We didn't have address of homes, or anything to go off of, but we had an idea of where they lived. We booked some rooms in Odense (a town on the Island of Fyn)  hoping and praying that we would find more of direction. I prayed and prayed that we would find something that would give us direction. A couple days before we left for Denmark, my mom found my Grandpa's ancestor book that he wrote in detail all about our Danish Ancestors. My heart skipped a beat, this was what would help us and lead us to the places we could go, where we would learn more about our Great Grandma and Grandpa. I devoured the book on the plane flight over, the book was so detailed it was able to give us towns, churches and homes where we could go visit.
Luckily the areas that they lived in had not changed much and so when we typed in the town we were lead straight to landmarks that were significant. We got to experience the culture, the people and walk on sacred ground that brought my family here to earth.

These are photos are from our time in Odense, a town I'll treasure forever.

Goosebumps. How incredible that your mom found that book just in time! And that church...hallowed ground. ❤
